Praise for Dr. Silvestri’s Master Class Rehearsal

Tony is a true poet, a master-teacher who draws on his vast intellect and experience to create deep, fragile, and haunting works of pure self-expression. There is simply no separation between his soul and his audience, and every time I hear him speak publicly I feel transformed, filled with the same sense of joy and catharsis that I feel from each of the pieces he and I have created together.

Eric Whitacre, Composer

Charles Anthony Silvestri's master class, which focuses primarily on his approach to the setting of poetry for songs, is one of the most engaging and informative sessions that I have experienced. Tony uses his wealth of knowledge of literature of all genres, weaving historical and stylistic elements into his presentation. My students at the University of Kansas were completely thrilled with the information they received about his text for Sleep.  Tony's personal insights, provided within the context of our rehearsal, gave my singers a much deeper understanding of the relationship of poetry and music, which in turn created a more inspired performance.  I whole-heartedly recommend Dr. Silvestri's workshop, especially for choruses performing his collaborative works with Eric Whitacre.

Dr. Paul Tucker, Associate Director of Choral Activities, The University of Kansas

Silvestri has included my students in the artistic process, which has been invaluable.  Who better than a poet and lyricist to teach young choral students the vitality of text meaning and stress.  Where Tony surpasses many other speakers is found in his candid dialogue with young singers about his personal experiences which influence his work.  My students trust him, learn from him, and enjoy engaging with a young artist who is so articulate about art, history, philosophy and music.  His words never leave the classroom with him, but stay, and continue to influence our interpretation of a piece of literature.

Hilary Morton, Director of Choirs, Lawrence Free State High School, Lawrence, KS

Anthony Silvestri is that rare breed of artist who can, through his honest and thought-provoking sessions, open up a new world of emotion and imagery for his listeners.  Our students were touched by his words in the most beautiful way imaginable – and as a result, their music-making was brought to an entirely new level.  It was an extraordinary workshop.

Dr. Pamela Elrod, Assistant Director of Choral Studies, Texas Tech University
