CHARLES  ANTHONY  SILVESTRI began his interest in calligraphy and medieval art as a young man.  His fascination with the medieval world led him to major in History, and earn Masters and Doctorate degrees in Medieval History, writing a dissertation editing an important 14th c. theological treatise.  Like his earlier counterparts, Silvestri learned to illuminate on vellum through arduous self-teaching from books and manuals both modern and medieval, and through classes and private apprenticeships with master artists such as Mark Van Stone, Mel Ahlborn and Sylvana Barrett.  He has offered lectures, demonstrations and workshops on the materials and techniques of medieval manuscript illumination.  Dr. Silvestri lives with his wife and children in Lawrence, Kansas, and teaches history at Washburn University.

He is also an accomplished poet, lyricist, and speaker, with several popular choral works to his credit.  To find out more about his writing, click here
