Typically, I charge based on the size of the work, its complexity and the cost of materials. Portraits and miniatures are more time-consuming, and therefore more expensive than simpler illuminations.
The base price of an 8X10 illumination on paper with gold accents is $225. Extensive gilding and real parchment cost an additional $30 each.
